On April 25, 2016, members of the California Council of ASLA gathered in Sacramento for a one-day retreat. Director John Nicolaus, representing the Sierra Chapter, hosted the meeting at the Sacramento headquarters of Wood Rodgers.
With President Chiye Azuma of the Northern California Chapter presiding, Executive Director Tracy Morgan Hollingworth and CCASLA Board of Directors representing all four California Chapters welcomed Terri Thomas, CCASLA’s legislative advocate in Sacramento, and Trish Rodriguez, LATC’s Program Manager, to the meeting and heard legislative reports and program updates during the morning session. Information and updated status on current bills of interest to CCASLA are posted in our ASLA-NCC’s legislative page.
Following the retreat agenda for the afternoon session, and joined by Mike Nichols and Jim Pickel on conference call, the members discussed, among other issues, on how to better communicate CCASLA efforts and legislative matters to the local chapters and members, the ongoing work to defend the profession against licensure threats, and the use of the Licensure Defense Funds (LDF) collected from the chapters under the provisions agreed upon in the 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by the four Chapters.
The meeting was adjourned at 4 p.m., after which, the out-of-towners sampled local refreshments before catching their respective rides/flights back home.
The next meeting of the CCASLA will take place on May 25 at noon, via conference call.
